Early last year we started our very own Backbone of America series which focuses on illustrations of workers of all fields. This series is dedicated to the hardworking men and women who recognizes the dignity of labor and help build America as a nation.
Firefighter was one of the first occupation that came to our mind. And when we decided that this will be the first piece to kick off the series, our instinctive drive was actually rather straight forward. It is simply because we have had the experience of doing fire departments artwork throughout the years from the commission jobs we did. This gave us comfort to start the project with a theme that we are already familiar with.
But it wasn’t just that. September 11, years after the date of the attack that changed our world we have come back to remember the valor of those we lost. Those who innocently went to work that day and the brave souls who went in after them. We come to be ever mindful of the courage of our rescuers. Men and women in uniform standing tall until the very end. Firefighters.
